It Is Catchup Time

Time has certainly gotten away from me since I last posted and I have a lot of catching up to do.

This pair of “Kentucky Loafers” have done a lot of “loafing” around over the past summer, doing a lot, and yet, accomplishing very little.

Let’s see now, where to start, that does create a dilemma, so I’ll just jump right in.

Cumberland Caverns Mar 2009 020

In March Roz and I, along with our good friends Erv & Coreen Moore, ventured to a place called Cumberland Caverns in McMinnville Tn to see a Bluegrass event called Bluegrass Underground.  This wonderful show took place 330 below ground in a huge ballroom environment within the Caverns.  The show was spectacular with amazing performances by several top named Bluegrass entertainers.  After leaving the show we stayed at Fall Creek Falls State Park, a nearby beautiful Tennessee State Park.  This is a photo Cumberland Caverns Mar 2009 042 of the beautiful Falls from which the Park got its’ name.

Western Ky Trip May 09 020 Western Ky Trip May 09 031 In April we traveled to Western Kentucky to visit the beautiful Columbus-Belmont State Park.  These photos are from our site overlooking the Mighty Mississippi River.  This Park has several attractions relating to the areas involvement in the Civil War and the attempts to blockade the North from utilizing the River for transport.  From here it was on over to Land Between The Lakes (Lakes Barkley & Kentucky Lake) to Piney Campground.  We spent almost a week here touring the Trace area between the Lakes.Western Ky Trip May 09 053

These big red ladies are part of the animal crowd at a place called The Homeplace 1850.  This is a wonderful recreation of a mid 1800s farmstead complete with animals.  A must see if in the area.

On To Florida-----July saw us in The Sunshine State for a visit with Ellen, Roz’ sister, in Ft Lauderdale.  This was a leisurely trip of about two weeks.  Made plans to return in early December for a camping experience  at Bahia Honda State Park in the Keys.  We are excited about this trip and the plans have already begun.

This was the month for the Goldwing and our little ride to the St Louis area to visit friends, Loren & Bonnie Jones.  This was really a great ride for the two of us and good to see old friends.  Weather was terrific.  Clint's visit & Dad's Bday 007

During the month of August my brother, living in the Philippines, came home for a visit and for our Fathers  birthday.  From left to right, my brother Charlie-Liza, (front) younger brother Jimmy-Sandra, and yours truly and little missus.Clint's visit & Dad's Bday 022

My Dads’ 87th birthday with a few friends.  I always had to get in the middle of things.  The fellow on the left is Dads friend also named Murrel.  I call them “The Two Murls” or “Murl and his other brother Murl.”  Parents are such special people.

August is also the month we went to the Owensboro area for a Bluegrass Gala called ROMP, River Of Music Party, taking place on the banks of the Ohio river and a nearby park.  This hosted a lot of big name Bluegrass entertainers and was a huge hit.  Got us hooked on Bluegrass music.  Bike Rides & ROMP Camping 016

This is my “groupie” bride posing with Mike Snyder after one of his performances.  He is an amazing performer and can play a banjo that is unbelievable.  Great show.

September saw another camping outing in Franklin Ky to attend yet another Bluegrass Festival.  This was a three day event with top entertainers, too numerous to recall.  After the festivities, we chose to venture on south into Tennessee for a week at Cheatham Lock and Dam Campground.  Bluegrass Festival-Cheatham 045

This place is located on the banks of the Cumberland River and is very relaxed, quiet and scenic.  We will return.

This about brings us up to the present time.   We are now enjoying the terrific Fall weather and the spectacular Fall leaf colors, and planning our next outing, which will be in early November back to the Cumberland Caverns in Tennessee for yet another Bluegrass Underground show…

Till next time, The Hills of Kentucky bid you farewell.
